January 13, 2008 Mother And Son Escape Fire In Their Apartment Saturday, January 12, 2008 (Last modified: 2008-01-12 01:07:19) Source: The Greeneville Sun By NELSON MORAIS Staff Writer An asthmatic mother, Jaynes, and her asthmatic nine-year-old son escaped their residence unharmed when a refrigerator in their Greeneville Housing Authority apartment caught fire. Smoke and fire damage to the home at xxx xxx xxxxxx was minimal, according to Capt. Steve Louderback of the Greeneville Fire Department. The fire was called in to 911 about 6:45 p.m., and extinguished within half an hour. Fire engines from four Greeneville stations, a Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Services ambulance and two Greeneville Light & Power System trucks rushed to the scene following a call to 911 of a "structure fire." At the scene, while firefighters completed their work in her home, Jaynes explained to Capt. Louderback what happened. She told him she was at her computer when she smelled smoke coming from her kitchen. When she investigated, she saw orange flames coming out of the refrigerator, she stated. Jaynes told Louderback she tried without success to put the fire out with a towel before calling 911. Following the arrival of firefighters, Jaynes' son was briefly put under observation in an EMS ambulance, then released to his mother. Jaynes said she and her son would spend the evening at a relative's home, according to 911 operator Della Sue Belt. @ADDRESS AND FIRST NAME EDITED
